Islands in the sun

Why shiver your way through winter when you can flit off to a tropical island where the mercury never drops below 20 degrees? Even if you can only wrangle a few days off work, islands like Fiji, New Caledonia, Vanuatu, Brampton and Lord Howe are handy for a dose of mid-winter sun and fun. Strap on your snorkel and see the July/August issue of The Open Road for details.

Daylight savers

NRMA research has found that more than half of all collisions in daylight are partly due to drivers not seeing each other in time to avoid an accident. NRMA therefore believes dedicated Daytime Running Lights (DRLs) are the way of the future. For all the facts see the July/August issue of The Open Road. more...

Risky business

Does Australian culture encourage dangerous driving among young people? This is one of the questions that will be addressed in a new research partnership between NRMA, the University of Western Sydney and the Australian Research Council. In the July/August issue of The Open Road we interview researcher Dr Sarah Redshaw and a group of drivers between 20 and 21 for an inside perspective.

Tunnel vision

Work has begun on the Cross City Tunnel, which will connect Kings Cross to Darling Harbour. It promises to ease traffic congestion in the CBD and is due for completion in 2005. See the July/August issue of The Open Road for details on how construction will affect traffic in the coming months.

Don’t touch that dial

Sticking to the speed limit and wearing a seatbelt doesn’t necessarily make you a safe driver. If you flick through radio stations, talk on your mobile phone, or scoff your lunch between changing gears, your chances of causing a crash are significantly higher. We present new NRMA research in the July/August issue of The Open Road. more...
